Later in the afternoon, return to Cairns by either the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, which glides over the World Heritage–listed rainforest and provides aerial views, or on the historical Kuranda Scenic Railway, where you can learn about the history of this feat of engineering. Once you have completed your choice of journey, you will be transferred by coach back to your accommodation in Cairns.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Barron Gorge National Park, Wrights Lookout Rd, Queensland Australia

Experience the Spectacular views from the viewing platform over the Barron Falls and Surrounding Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Discovery Tours Australia, Cairns, Queensland 4870 Australia

After pickup from your Cairns hotel by your guide, your tour begins by heading north to Barron Gorge National Park. Stop at Surprise Falls, a 797-foot-high (243-meter) waterfall set in the lower Barron Gorge.

Continue climbing the Lamb Range to the west of Cairns, and enjoy views over the city and out toward Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef. Then head to Lake Morris and Copperlode Dam; this is Cairns’ water supply, surrounded by World Heritage rainforest–clad mountains. You'll have time to stretch your legs and snap photos from the lookout before crossing the dam wall.

With your exclusive-access permit, head into areas not typically open to the public, away from the crowds. In your 4WD vehicle, wind through some of the most amazing rainforest landscapes in the region and over the Great Dividing Range, one of the longest mountain ranges in the world. Continue through the rainforest, crossing several creek systems and stopping at a boardwalk for an interpretive overview of the rainforest from your guide, including an introduction to the Clohesy River fig tree.

Next, leave the lushness of the Wet Tropics and enter the beginning of Australia’s savannah country, marveling at the rapid change in the forest types and scenery. Back on paved roads, make your way to Kuranda, where your guide drops you off just before midday for free time to explore this 'Village in the Rainforest.' You have about three hours to check out its attractions and markets on your own, and have lunch at one of the cafes or restaurants (own expense).

Found this trip very disappointing, the key work 4WD is totally misleading and misrepresented, the most we experienced was some dirt roads, one or 2 creeks that most normal all wheel or 4wd vehicles could have navigated with absolute ease. Picked up at 7:30am, provided with a very basic fruit tasting that cost the provider $10, dropped off in Kuranda at about 11-11.30 am, had to wait for hours until the train left between 2-2.30pm, which only cost $100 out of $427.00, totally not worth it. Would not recommend this trip waste of money. The guide was knowledgeable though.

We had an excellent driver, willing to accommodate a small group of people. It’s best to do this tour after it rains. The waterfalls were beautiful. Don’t miss this trip.

We spent half a day with Darryl and it was one of the best tours we have ever been on. He is so knowledgeable about the area, and shares his experiences and history of the places you go. We can't wait to book a tour with him when we return next February!

It was a wonderful afternoon with John, our tour guide from Discovery Tour Australia. Chris, I was told the owner of the company, gave me very detailed information during my telephone enquire. John came sharp on time and opened with big warm smile and sincere handshake. On the way to the site seeing points, John gave us all the details and as informative as a biologist. He is one of the most passionated tour guides that I have met. We enjoyed the afternoon very well and the tea and cookies that served by John was also delicious.

On my recent visit to Cairns I had a half day to spare from work. I booked this tour at the last minute and it was fabulous. There were 6 of us and we all had a great time. Carsten was excellent and very relaxed and informative. I would highly recommend.

Took the Scenic rail from Cairns to Kuranda. great ride on a 100 year old train with retired carriages. Lots of sites on the way. Another small Zoo. Waterfalls, Rain forest, Rode the Aqua Ducks. (land sea cars) A couple of sky rails and a cable car back as well. Beautiful. The train ride was just great. Also Kuranda has a Cultural village Traditional dance, throw a boomerang, Great for all ages. Recommended when in Cairns. Pickup from Hotel and return.

We Did the 4WD Waterfall and Rainforest Tour with the Kuranda Skyrail with Warren. Since we were in Cairns for 4 days of Monsoon weather we decided to see the waterfalls. Warren was our guide. He is very knowledgeable about all the plants and animal life that we saw on the tour. He is also very flexible as the roads were closed on his usual route due to mudslides. The great thing was that the waterfalls where beautiful due to all the rains. We went to Campbell Lookout, Surprise Falls, a drive to the outback to see how the vegetation changes from the rainforest to the outback in the matter of a few miles. We then went to Barron Falls. Warren then dropped us off at Kuranda and we took the Skyrail down. He also provided a tea and snack break at a scenic river.

the 4WD is in a fully enclosed SUV, takes you over roads that would not otherwise be able to access, the cable car is great -- beautiful views with a couple of stops, we had time to see zoo, butterfly house and aviary too. A bus picked us up at the end of the cableway and returned us to our hotel.

We took the half day rainforest and waterfall experience at Cairns with an incredible guide. The vegetation, the humidity, the amount of rainfall in this area is something to see. I have never seen trees this big. The leaves on some of the trees were bigger than i am. Experience the jungle and how the local inhabitants lived in this environment.
